Artist

François Ragot

François Ragot is a Baroque artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

François Ragot made dark, finely etched religious prints in mid-17th-century France. One of his few surviving images is the print Adoration of the Shepherds, showing candlelit shepherds kneeling before the infant Christ. Ragot’s lines are crisp and controlled, giving the scene quiet weight rather than drama. Look for the way chiaroscuro glows around the Christ child—just follow the print’s title in the next tile.
