Simion Zugrav

Simion Zugrav is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Transylvanian History.

This 19th-century Romanian church artist left pencil and ink drawings of saints meant to hang in the nave. His 1834 Sfântul Nicolae shows the bishop in stiff robes, halo caught in careful hatching, the ink still vivid on aged paper—an everyday object for parishioners walking past. The drawing is dated on the sheet’s lower edge, a tiny numeral that fixes it to the 1830s. Flip next to see how the same saint appears in another drawing from the same year.
