Monogrammist IM

Monogrammist IM is a Northern Renaissance painter. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This unknown painter from the late 1400s made small, detailed tempera panels of religious scenes. Their *The Crucifixion* (1480) shows a crowded hillside under a dark sky, Christ on the cross surrounded by mourners in sharp, crinkled robes. The faces are stiff but full of grief, the whole scene lit by a cold, flat light. Want to see how other artists painted the same story? Tap *The Crucifixion* to compare.
