Artist

Josef Hoffmann

Josef Hoffmann is a Vienna Secession artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Uffizi Gallery.

Josef Hoffmann worked in Vienna at the turn of the 20th century, designing chairs, cabinets, and silver pieces with clean lines and square joints. In 1886 he etched a Self-portrait that shows the same spare geometry he later brought to furniture and metalwork. Tap the Self-portrait to see how a boxy collar and block-like hair echo the shapes he would build in wood and glass.
