Urpo Manelius drew what he saw from his upstairs window on Punavuorenkatu in Helsinki, always the same corner, same streetlamp, same slant of light. He filled notebooks with these views—just lines, no fuss—until the drawings looked like they were moving in the breeze. His trick was to leave the paper white where the snow stayed unmelted, letting the city breathe around it.
