Artist

Yaqub Kashmiri

Yaqub Kashmiri is a Mughal Painting artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Yaqub Kashmiri spent his career painting in the court of Mughal emperor Akbar, but he was the only painter there who signed his work in large, looping letters across the edge of the page. He hid tiny portraits of himself in the corner of every painting, always looking sideways, as if he’d been caught daydreaming mid-brushstroke. His brushstrots were so delicate they could’ve been drawn with a single eyelash. Look for the signature in the bottom right corner of *Untitled* (ca. 1590) to spot his hidden self-portrait.
