Nicolas de Largillière

Nicolas de Largillière is an artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Art of Romania.

French portraitist of the late 1600s and early 1700s, Largillière painted silk robes, lace collars, and the exact tilt of a wig across the forehead. His brush caught the flash of rings on pudgy fingers in “Vicontele d’Argesson” and the way a red cloak catches lamplight in “Bărbat cu manta roșie.” Look for the way he sets a white ruff against a dark curtain—simple tools, dazzling finish. Tap the red cloak to zoom into every brushstroke.
