Artist

Girolamo Rossi

Girolamo Rossi is a Baroque artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Italian printmaker in the 1600s, Girolamo Rossi turned myth into finely etched lines. “Fall of Phaeton,” his 1649 engraving, shows the doomed chariot driver plunging earthward amid swirling clouds. A mid-century print called “A musical party” gathers figures around a harpsichord in a candlelit room. Both sheets reveal his knack for turning dramatic stories into quiet, black-and-white scenes. Want to see how a single copper plate can carry that much story? Tap “Fall of Phaeton.”
