Artist

Thomas Hayter Lewis

Thomas Hayter Lewis is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

In his teens, Thomas Hayter Lewis sketched ruins instead of doing homework, filling notebooks with cracked columns and shadowed porches. The habit stuck: on a December morning in 1841 he stood in Sicily’s Valle dei Templi, pencil dancing over paper until the crumbling Temple of Juno Lucina looked solid again. His drawings do one thing well—they let you walk inside the past without a tour guide. Look up Girgenti. Temple of Juno Lucina; zoom in on the left-hand capital and you’ll see every nick the wind carved in 2,400 years.
