Aniko

b. 1200

Aniko is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Cleveland Museum of Art.

This Tibetan artist made gilt-metal sculptures of Buddhist deities in the 1200s. One of their surviving works is the Green Tara, a standing female figure cast in bronze and set with semiprecious stones. The piece appears in our gallery mounted on a modern base from 2020. Look for the scarf-like shawl draped over the left shoulder—an easy detail to spot up close.
