Frederik Martin Sørvig

Frederik Martin Sørvig is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Helsinki City Museum.

He once worked the midnight shift in a Helsinki shipyard, sketching smudged oil on his hands in the hum of cranes. These drawings—sailboats that look like they’re dissolving—ended up in a drawer until a friend spotted one taped to a café wall and talked him into showing them. A curator later called them “Finnish light made solid,” which still makes him laugh. Slide into Gallery Tiles and look for Purjealus Toiwo: you’ll see a hull that’s almost a memory, a trick of ink that makes you squint at the air.
