Artist

Bohemian 15th Century

1410–1420

Bohemian 15th Century was a Renaissance artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Gallery of Art.

This anonymous Bohemian artist painted tiny religious scenes on thin, treated animal skin called vellum. One of their surviving pieces shows Christ and the Virgin sitting side by side on a gold throne, surrounded by saints in jewel-bright colors. These delicate pictures were made to fit inside prayer books or small private altars. Look for the sharp folds in the robes and the way light seems to bounce off the halos—common clues from the early 1400s. Tap into Christ and the Virgin Enthroned to zoom in on the details.
