Pietro Marchesini

Pietro Marchesini is a Baroque artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Țării Crișurilor Museum.

Pietro Marchesini turned candlelight into paint—literally. He’d set up his easel at dusk, candles flickering behind translucent marble saints so the light filtered through like stained glass. You can still see it in his 1734 *Sfânta Familie*: the Christ child glows as if lit from inside, while Mary’s drapery melts into shadow. The trick? He rubbed beeswax into the paint so it caught the flame’s warmth. See it in person and you’ll swear the canvas is warm to the touch.
