Artist

R. W. Thrupp

R. W. Thrupp is an Impressionism artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

R.W. Thrupp spent his days lurking backstage at London theaters, squinting through his camera at actors mid-monologue. He didn’t care about their famous faces—he wanted the sweat on their foreheads and the scuff on their boots. His 1883 photo of Guy Little shows an actor caught between poses, one hand clutching a prop that’s already forgotten. Look it up: it’s a quiet rebellion against stiff Victorian portraits.
