Artist

Li Shizhuo

Li Shizhuo is a Qing dynasty painting artist. 4 works are cataloged here, principally at Cleveland Museum of Art.

Li Shizhuo painted misty mountain scenes in the 1600s–1700s, following the old masters Jing Hao and Guan Tong. Look for *Landscape: Beautiful Scenery Frozen in Mist* (1772) to see how he layered ink and pale washes to make distant peaks melt into fog. His other copy, *Landscape after Jing Hao and Guan Tong* (around 1690–1770), shows jagged cliffs and single pines in ink alone. Tap *Landscape after Jing Hao and Guan Tong* (1730) to compare two takes on the same rocky valley before and after the 1700s.
