Carol Szathmary Popp made lively scenes of everyday life in late-19th-century Romania. His 1880 print Bâlciul shows a bustling village fair with carts, traders, and townsfolk in folk dress. He also painted Schiță (Târg), a sketch-like town view, and wove Trei Surugii into textile work. His Țigancă is a small oil portrait of a woman in patterned scarves.
