Artist

City Stereoscopic Depot

City Stereoscopic Depot is an Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

City Stereoscopic Depot made 3D photographs in the 1850s. Their “Greek and Egyptian Sculpture at Crystal Palace” shows life-size plaster casts lined up like a museum hallway. Stereoscopic photos used two lenses to trick your eyes into seeing depth, so the statues pop off the card. These pictures were sold to tourists who popped them into viewers at home. Next, tap the photograph itself to look through the old viewer and step inside the Crystal Palace hall.
