Head of a fiend

Forbes-Robertson is an Impressionism artist. 9 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Forbes-Robertson fills sketchbooks with late-Victorian and early-Edwardian life, mostly in black ink on paper. Two of his sharpest sheets here are *Strolling Players* from 1892 and the wry *Jania*, both quick, expressive drawings that catch figures mid-movement. His other sheets—*Head of a fiend*, *The Novice*, and the spare *Self-portraits with two male profiles*—show the same knack for line and mood. Flip to *Strolling Players* to follow the players’ hats and coats across the page.
