Augusta Soldan

Augusta Soldan is an artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Finnish National Gallery.

Augusta Soldan spent her life staring at other artists’ landscapes until she could paint them from memory. She copied works by Albert Flamm and Franz Hengsbach so many times that her copies look like they were painted by the originals—only softer, as if seen through a long Finnish winter. If you’ve ever stood in front of a real-life scene and thought, “This feels like a painting,” Soldan’s versions will get you closer than most. Hunt down her copy of Flamm’s Finnish countryside scene and watch how the pines lean into the light like they’re sharing a secret.
