Toivo Santeri Salokivi

Toivo Santeri Salokivi is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Helsinki City Museum.

A Finnish draftsman who left no dates behind, Salokivi made the 1895 Helsinki herring market his own with quick, rhythmic ink lines in *Silakkamarkkinat*—crowds, stalls and winter coats captured in one sheet. The drawing snaps the city’s daily pulse before electric lights took over, when fishwives called prices in a language of gestures. Step into the snow-streaked scene and follow the carts to Senate Square where the trade unfolded every autumn.
