Artist

Stefano della Bella

Stefano della Bella is a Baroque artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Stefano della Bella kept a tiny studio in Florence where he sketched soldiers as if they were actors on a stage—ink and paper were his quick-change costumes. He turned war into theater prints that look like pages torn from a playbook, full of smoke and swords but oddly light on blood. His *Ornament print* (around 1650) folds fireworks and flags into one sheet like confetti at a parade; tap it and you’ll see how tightly he packed chaos onto paper.
