A Czech painter from the early 1600s, Christian Melich specialized in polished oil portraits and sweeping cityscapes. His View of Warsaw from Vistula river (oil on canvas, 1620) records a bustling river crossing with boats and spires, while the Portrait of King Władysław IV Vasa (oil on canvas, 1640) shows the monarch in armor and ermine.
