Master of the Plump-Cheeked Madonnas

Master of the Plump-Cheeked Madonnas is a Northern Renaissance artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon.

This anonymous painter left us two surviving Madonnas, both in tempera on panel around 1485. The first shows the Virgin giving milk to the Christ Child in a quiet, softly lit interior. The second Madonna wears a blue mantle over a deep red dress and holds a flower. Both hang in the same European city museum. Tap the panel with the blue mantle to see every brushstroke up close.
