Gheorghe Pîrvu is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Romanian History.
Gheorghe Pîrvu spent the 1980s churning out stiff official portraits of Romania’s dictator—so stiff that even the paint looked bored. The 1982 oil on canvas for Călărași town hall is pure deadpan propaganda: Ceaușescu’s chin juts like a ship’s prow and the red tie screams “touch me not.” Grab a coffee and stare at it; the longer you look, the more the portrait starts to smile.
