Francesc Comes

Francesc Comes was an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya.

Francesc Comes painted in 1400, right when Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter was buzzing with gold-leaf altarpieces. He lined panels with tiny, stiff saints, but his trick was light—he caught it slipping across armor and silk folds like it was real. Look at *Saint John the Baptist, Annunciation, Crucifixion* on the museum wall: the gold halo isn’t flat, it’s hammered thin so the candlelight bounces off it sideways. That’s the detail that makes his work pop.
