Ernest Bailey

Ernest Bailey is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Ernest Bailey kept a small print shop in a London alley where the smell of ink and damp paper never faded. He spent years carving wooden blocks that folded out like tiny stage sets, each line crisp enough to make a sparrow’s feather look freshly landed. His prints feel like postcards from someone who never left town—hands in pockets, boots caked with mud, the pub on the corner lit just right at dusk. Try the “H Beard” series; one sheet shows a barmaid wiping a glass while a collie naps by the stove—ordinary life, frozen in woodcut.
