Ion de la Beriu

Ion de la Beriu is a Baroque artist. 4 works are cataloged here, principally at Alba Iulia Orthodox Archdiocese.
A Romanian draftsman active in the mid-1700s, Ion de la Beriu filled sheets with delicate ink lines and chalk accents. Look at the 1749 sheet “Iisus Hristos Pantocrator, înconjurat de apostoli” where nimbus-thin halos float above each head in a tight halo of figures. In his drawing “Arhanghelul Mihail” the archangel’s wing feathers fan out like frost on glass, each quill counted in careful hatching. Close by to see how the same confident stroke delivers the Virgin’s blue mantle in “Maica Domnului cu Pruncul.” Then tap any of the four drawings to zoom in on Beriu’s hand.
