Artist

Jonathan Skelton

Jonathan Skelton is a Rococo painting artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Jonathan Skelton spent his life with a paintbox and a passport, chasing the light in Rome like it was going out of style. He never left England but his watercolors make you swear he wandered the cobbles of the Eternal City every dawn. One sheet shows the Tiber at golden hour, St. Peter’s glowing behind Hadrian’s tomb; another catches Tivoli’s Great Cascade in a sheet of silver frost. To see these is to hold an 18th-century boarding pass—tap the “View of Rome with the Tiber” and step straight onto Skelton’s balcony.
