Julius Caesar Ibbetson is a Romanticism artist. 4 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
Julius Caesar Ibbetson painted lively outdoor scenes and rugged landscapes in watercolor. In 1786, he sketched Skaters on the Serpentine in Hyde Park, capturing the crisp energy of Londoners on ice. His 1812 watercolor Gypsies shows travelers at camp, while his North Wales coastal views (c.1780–1817) reveal moody seascapes. He worked in the late 1700s and early 1800s, when British artists swapped heavy oils for portable watercolors. Tap “Skaters on the Serpentine” to see his quick brushwork and sharp winter light.
