Heou Yi-min

Heou Yi-min is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Romanian History.

Heou Yi-min spent years painting propaganda murals in coal towns, where miners would sneak glances over his shoulder. In 1961 he turned one scene into a poster: Mao Zedong shaking hands with grimy Anyuan miners after their 1922 strike. The picture ended up in a four-language album given to Ceaușescu—tiny print run, big circulation. Look for the original mural in the Anyuan Workers’ Cultural Palace; the handshakes are still there.
