Artist

Konrad Sparre

Konrad Sparre is a Barbizon school artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Statens Museum for Kunst.

Konrad Sparre spent his life behind the scenes in Copenhagen’s royal workshops, stitching costumes and painting props no one ever saw. His lone known canvas, *Negro* (1719), shows a man in a white lace collar, the brushwork so soft it looks like candle smoke. When you swipe to that painting in the app, notice how the lace disappears into the dark background—he didn’t just paint a face, he painted how light forgets edges at dusk.
