Contribution to V&A's 150th anniversary album is a drawing by Malcolm Appleby. It dates from 2007 and is held in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum. In 2007 the Victoria and Albert Museum marked the 150th anniversary of its South Kensington premises.

About this work

Malcolm Appleby made a single drawing for the V&A’s 150th birthday album in 2007. Artists, designers, and photographers were asked to send one page that showed what the museum meant to them. His sheet could be a drawing, a sketch, or even just words.

The brief let each creator pick a medium or a simple message. Appleby chose ink on paper.

Overview

In 2007 the Victoria and Albert Museum marked the 150th anniversary of its South Kensington premises. To commemorate the milestone, the institution invited a hundred‑and‑fifty prominent figures from the fields of art, design, architecture and photography to contribute a single page to a specially produced anniversary album.

Subject & Meaning

Each participant was asked to convey what the museum and its collections inspire in them. The contributions could range from visual sketches to textual statements, allowing a personal reflection on the V&A’s role as a cultural repository.

Technique & Style

Malcolm Appleby responded to the brief with an ink drawing executed on paper. By selecting a traditional medium, his work aligns with the album’s open format, which welcomed anything from hand‑drawn sketches to computer‑generated graphics.

History & Provenance

Appleby’s page forms part of the limited‑edition album produced for the museum’s sesquicentennial celebration. The album, containing one contribution from each of the 150 invited creators, serves as a documented record of the event and the diverse artistic voices it gathered.
