Giordano employs a dynamic Baroque palette, with luminous chiaroscuro that models the figures and highlights the painter’s studio setting. Created between 1650 and 1655, the canvas entered the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, where it remains on view. A second version of the same subject, also by Giordano, is housed in the Museo de Arte in Ponce, Puerto Rico, indicating the theme’s popularity in his oeuvre.
