James Justus Tucker

James Justus Tucker is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Fitzwilliam Museum.

James Justus Tucker spent his life chasing the apocalypse, painting it over and over in flickering lamplight. His big break came when he was called to decorate a London church ceiling in the 1820s, where fire and brimstone looked like real weather. You can still see it today—his Angel Proclaiming the End of Time, a sooty cloud of canvas that feels more like a storm warning than a prophecy.
