Constantin Z. Bolovan

Constantin Z. Bolovan is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Romanian History.

Constantin Z. Bolovan spent the 1970s making cheerful little paintings on cardboard in Iași—think scratchy brushes and colors that looked like they were bought at the hardware store. One of them shows Nicolae Ceaușescu in a too-big suit, waving a flag with a wonky coat of arms. The joke is still there: the dictator’s head is a little too big for his body, like a child’s drawing. Track down “Nicolae Ceaușescu la alegerea ca președinte” in a Romanian archive and you’ll see what happens when an amateur painter gets a front-row seat to history.
