Romanian painter Vasile Pop Negreșteanu made official portraits in the late 1980s. In 1989 he painted Elena Ceaușescu holding a rose and a book, flanked by pioneers and folk-costumed figures. A second 1989 print called “Omagiu” shows the same sitter with his signature in the corner. Both works were ordered by political groups to mark her 70th birthday.
