Petru Zugravu din Topârcea

Petru Zugravu din Topârcea is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at ASTRA National Museum Complex.

A Transylvanian church artist active in the late 1700s, Petru Zugravu din Topârcea drew delicate religious images on paper and wood. His only dated work here is the 1799 Icoa Zug, a small devotional drawing meant for private prayer. The sheet survives with its original ink and wash still sharp against the aged paper. Look for the way he lined up the halo’s rays with the figure’s posture—every line had to point toward reverence. Tap Icoa Zug to zoom in on the hatching that gives the saint’s robe its folds.
