Bradbury & Evans

Bradbury & Evans is an Impressionism artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Bradbury & Evans ran a London print shop that doubled as an early version of clickbait. They’d lure Victorians with outrageously long plant names like “Umbelliferae (Buphorum rotundifolium, Lo.)” so people would stare at the picture and feel smart for knowing the Latin. One day they got bored and drew a hairy stalk labeled “Great Nettle,” making sure the spines looked ready to sting your thumb. Their prints were basically the 1850s version of a meme: cheap, shareable, and weirdly educational. Hunt down their 1854 “Great Nettle” print—it’s the size of a postcard and still pricks your curiosity.
