Jean de Wayembourg

Jean de Wayembourg is a Mannerism painter. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Museo del Prado.

Jean de Wayembourg painted formal portraits in the late 1500s, the kind where nobles posed stiffly in dark costumes to show off their rank. This bundle includes his full-length group portrait of three young royals—Christina of Denmark, Claude of Valois and Christina of Lorraine—painted in oils in 1598. The stiff poses and rich fabrics belong to the late Renaissance tradition, when artists were still learning how to make figures feel alive. Tap through to see how the velvet folds catch the light.
