Artist

Thomas Jones

Thomas Jones is a Rococo painting artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Hermitage Museum.

Thomas Jones painted quiet outdoor scenes in Naples during the 1770s and 1780s. In *Rooftops in Naples* and *Scene near Naples*, he recorded sunlit walls, laundry-strewn courtyards, and distant volcanoes with spare, direct brushwork. His small oil sketch *A View of Certosa di San Martino with the Castel Sant’ Elmo, Naples* shows the same careful attention to light and shadow. Look at *Pencerrig* next to see how Jones handled a Welsh landscape with the same clear eye.
