Petre Diacul din Preluca

Petre Diacul din Preluca is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at ASTRA National Museum Complex.

This 18th-century icon painter kept turning up in Maramureș’s wooden churches with brush in hand, often finishing work just before Lent. What’s weird and wonderful is how he swapped Saint John the Baptist for Saint John the Evangelist in his *Deesis*—a twist you won’t spot in most churches. If you want to see his hand in person, hunt down the 1774 icon at Bârsana Monastery; it’s signed in old Romanian script and still wears its original hues.
