Gyárfás employs a restrained palette and subtle contrasts of light and shadow to model the figure’s features, a technique reminiscent of chiaroscuro. The composition is limited to the chest and head, allowing the texture of skin and fabric to dominate. The decorative sensibility of Art Nouveau appears in the smooth contours and elegant rendering of the subject’s attire.

Since its completion at the turn of the twentieth century, the portrait has remained in Hungarian public collections, eventually entering the Museum of Ethnography’s permanent archive. Its presence there underscores the institution’s focus on documenting the visual culture of regional groups such as the Székelys.
