About this work
Overview
Untitled is a 1954 woodcut print by John Laurent, part of a portfolio of twelve prints.
Subject & Meaning
The print depicts a distorted, jagged figure with a small head and single eye, rendered in bold, vibrant colors against a largely blank background. The figure's awkwardly stretched limbs and abstracted form suggest a non-representational interpretation.
Technique & Style
The woodcut technique used to create the print results in rough, textured lines and flat, unmodulated colors. The artist's use of bold, contrasting hues and expressive carving contributes to the work's graphic intensity.
History & Provenance
The print is held in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art.
