After a decade‑long conservation effort, the original returned to public view in 2008, replacing a historic replica that had been displayed during the treatment.

From 1998 to 2008 it underwent extensive restoration, during which conservators repaired cracks, removed discolored varnish, and stabilized the panel, allowing the work to be exhibited again in its original form.
