Mestre de Retascón

Mestre de Retascón is an artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya.

This anonymous painter from the early 1400s made vivid altar panels full of dramatic faces and deep folds of fabric. Two of their surviving works, The Kiss of Judas and Embrace at the Golden Gate, show crowded scenes where every figure leans in close. The gold-leaf halos and thick outlines feel more medieval than later Renaissance styles. Tap Embrace at the Golden Gate to see how they packed emotion into a quiet moment.
