History & Provenance

Eric Owen, the artist, worked as chief modeller and sculptor for Wedgwood from 1946 to 1967. He continued to work as a freelance modeller with facilities at Barlaston until his death in 1975.

Context

Owen's role at Wedgwood involved modelling tableware shapes and portrait medallions. He was also an accomplished lecturer and teacher, having taught at the Royal College of Art, and was elected a member of the Society of Industrial Artists in 1957.
