Lampi employs the richness of oil paint to model flesh and fabric, achieving subtle gradations of light that give the dress and hair a tactile quality. The cloudy sky background, rendered with soft brushwork, adds depth while maintaining focus on the figure.

Born in Austria to an Italian family, Lampi moved to Warsaw in 1815 and quickly became a favored portraitist among the Polish aristocracy of the late Stanisław II Augustus era. This particular portrait entered the National Museum in Kraków’s collection, where it remains on display.
