Portret, attributed to Mór Than and dated to around 1850, survives only as the reverse side of its original wooden frame. The canvas, now largely faded to a uniform brown, bears the ghost of a once‑visible portrait, its features and garments reduced to indistinct tones.
Context
The back of the work shows signs of extensive aging: the surface is marked by two pale, sun‑shaped stains in the lower right quadrant, likely the result of prolonged storage or environmental exposure. A Romanian‑language paper label affixed to the upper left records the artist’s name and basic identification data.
