Brueghel the Younger employs a crowded, yet carefully arranged composition typical of Flemish Baroque painting. The oil medium allows for fine detailing of facial expressions, textile textures, and the dappled forest light that frames a small body of water in the background.

The artist, active in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, was known for reproducing his father’s compositions and producing original works. This particular piece has remained in the public domain through its acquisition by the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, where it is displayed today.
