About this work
Overview
Renée Sintenis's Untitled is a drypoint print created around 1923. It is part of The Museum of Modern Art's collection.
Subject & Meaning
The print depicts a bare-chested figure seated beside a dog, leaning on one arm. The relaxed yet slightly stiff pose of the figure and the suggested texture of the dog's fur convey a sense of informality.
Technique & Style
Sintenis employed the drypoint technique, scratching lines into a metal plate to produce the print. The resulting image is characterized by loose, quick lines and a lack of shading beyond the lines themselves, giving it a sketch-like quality.
History & Provenance
Sintenis, a German sculptor and graphic artist, was active in Berlin and married to painter and writer Emil Rudolf Weiß. She won an Olympic bronze medal in 1928 for her art.
